Deepak Agrawal is new Managing Director of GPS Renewables’ project development firm ARYA

Deepak Agarwal has held leadership positions in organizations like A2Z Green Waste Management and IL&FS Environmental. He was previously associated with Gurugram based bioenergy conglomerate EverEnviro.

Bengaluru-headquartered biogas EPC firm GPS Renewables has announced that it has appointed Deepak Agarwal as the Managing Director of ARYA which is its project development arm.

GPS Renewables is a full-stack biofuels company providing technology and project solutions for sustainable biofuel projects. Beginning with captive biogas plants, the company has grown to establish some of the world’s largest biogas projects. In 2022, GPS Renewables launched GPSR Arya, a wholly-owned subsidiary, to spearhead Build-Own-Operate (BOO) projects, furthering its mission to drive climate impact.

Deepak Agarwal is an industry expert who has more than 35 years of experience in waste management and biogas segments and he brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. A former Central Civil Services officer and alumnus of IIT Roorkee and the Defense Services Staff College, Wellington, Deepak Agarwal has held leadership positions in organizations such as A2Z Green Waste Management and IL&FS Environmental. He was previously associated with Gurugram based bioenergy conglomerate EverEnviro Resource Management Pvt. Ltd.

Deepak Agarwal has also been a member of several national committees formed by the Central Government and currently serves as Vice-President of the Waste Management Association. Deepak has made significant contributions to policy advocacy, working with the PMO and various central and state governments to create policies that promote the Waste Management and Bio-CNG/CBG sectors.

Commenting on his appointment, Deepak Agarwal held, “I am thrilled to join GPSR ARYA and collaborate with a team that has successfully executed some of India’s largest biofuel projects. I have been closely following GPS Renewables’ work in the biofuels domain and it’s exciting to see some of the projects that are in the pipeline.”

Mainak Chakraborty, CEO and Co-Founder, GPS Renewables, mentioned that the extensive leadership experience of Deepak Agrawal across government and private sectors will be a huge value add for ARYA. “Over the next few months, ARYA will be at the forefront of enhancing biofuel production capacity with a number of impactful projects and partnerships in the pipeline. Deepak’s expertise in the biofuels industry will be instrumental in scaling ARYA’s impact.”

On an expansion spree, ARYA recently secured Rs 100 crore in mezzanine funding from InCred Opportunities Fund and Spark Capital. The new funds would help ARYA to develop compressed biogas (CBG) projects through joint ventures with industry leaders Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
