Gravita India to add 59,200 MTPA copper recycling capacity at Mundra
As per mandatory disclosure by the company, the new capacity with an investment of about Rs 64 crore is expected to be commissioned in phases by March 31, 2029.
Jaipur headquartered Gravita India Limited plans to expand its copper recycling operations by adding 59,200 tonnes per annum (MTPA) of capacity at its existing facility in Mundra, Gujarat, as the company looks to strengthen its position in the growing sustainable metals market.
The company disclosed the proposed expansion in a filing with the BSE and NSE under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
The capacity addition will require an investment of about Rs 64 crore, which will be funded entirely through internal accruals. This will allow the company to undertake the expansion without relying on external debt or equity for the proposed capital expenditure.
The new capacity is expected to be commissioned in phases by March 31, 2029. As it represents a fresh addition to Gravita’s copper recycling operations, existing capacity and utilisation figures for the specific segment are not applicable.
According to the company, the expansion is aimed at meeting rising domestic and international demand for sustainable copper products while strengthening its recycling infrastructure. The project will also serve as a backward integration initiative for Gravita’s proposed plant at Mandvi in Gujarat.
The Mundra facility is strategically located near a major port, providing logistical advantages for sourcing recyclable raw materials and distributing finished products to domestic and overseas markets. The integration is expected to strengthen raw material availability and improve processing capabilities across the company’s copper recycling value chain.
The planned expansion comes as demand for recycled metals gains importance amid growing emphasis on resource efficiency and circular-economy practices. Copper recycling can reduce the need for primary raw materials while supporting more sustainable metal production.
With the proposed 59,200 MTPA addition, Gravita is seeking to build greater scale in copper recycling while creating operational linkages between its Mundra and proposed Mandvi facilities. The company said the investment forms part of its broader long-term strategy to expand recycling capacity and cater to increasing demand for sustainable metal products.
