KPI, Desco Infratech, Naveriya Gas collaborate for hydrogen–natural gas blending projects

The initiative aims to cut dependence on imported LNG and align with the government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat or self-reliant India.

KPI Green Hydrogen and Ammonia, Desco Infratech Ltd, and Naveriya Gas have announced a strategic collaboration to launch hydrogen–natural gas blending projects in India’s city gas distribution (CGD) sector.

As per the official joint statement, Desco Infratech said that the partnership marks a significant step toward building green energy infrastructure and accelerating India’s clean energy transition. The initiative aims to cut dependence on imported LNG and align with the government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat or self-reliant India.

Under the collaboration, KPI Green Hydrogen and Ammonia will be responsible for producing green hydrogen. The firm is a wholly-owned subsidiary of KP Group. Desco Infratech will bring its engineering and technological expertise to blend hydrogen with natural gas, while Naveriya Gas will manage the integration of the blended fuel into existing city gas networks.

According to Malhar P. Desai, Whole-Time Director at Desco Infratech, the initiative will not only lower carbon emissions but also make effective use of existing gas infrastructure. He stated, “By blending hydrogen with natural gas, we are contributing to India’s journey toward net-zero emissions while ensuring a sustainable and reliable energy supply.”

Surat-based Desco Infratech operates across power, renewable energy, water, and city gas segments. KPI Green Hydrogen and Ammonia focuses on developing green hydrogen solutions to support India’s clean energy goals.

Seeking Opportunities

KP Group announced earlier this month that it signed an agreement with multiple partners including South Korea’s Jeonbuk Province, GH2 Solar Ltd and AHES Co Ltd. to explore opportunities in the green hydrogen sector.
