Galia secures €89 million for biomethane expansion in Poland

The company has signed an 18-year financing agreement with a consortium comprising PKO Bank Polski, Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) and mBank.

Warsaw based green energy developer Galia Green Power has secured PLN 376 million (€89.3 million) in long-term financing to expand its biogas and biomethane operations across Poland, in one of the country’s largest recent funding arrangements for the sector.

The company has signed an 18-year financing agreement with a consortium comprising PKO Bank Polski, Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) and mBank. The funding will support the acquisition of existing biogas plants, expansion of operational facilities and development of new biomethane production projects.

The first tranche of financing is expected to be deployed during the current quarter. Under the flexible financing structure, additional projects can be incorporated as they meet specified technological and environmental requirements.

The facility also includes an option to increase funding by a further PLN 225 million (€53.3 million), allowing Galia Green Power to scale investments as its project pipeline develops. The structure is designed to align capital deployment with the maturity and readiness of individual projects.

Galia Green Power CEO Marcin Orłowski said, “The financing secured is an important step in implementing our investment plan. Cooperation with three leading financial institutions confirms the quality of the projects we have prepared and the growing importance of biomethane for the energy transition.”

“The implementation of such investments also contributes to expanding know-how in financing decarbonisation projects, which, as scale and generation capacity grow, will play an increasingly important role in Poland’s energy transition,” said, Paweł Wójtowicz, Director of the Regional Project Finance Office at BGK

The participating banks highlighted the transaction’s broader contribution to renewable energy development, decarbonisation and energy security. BGK said consortium financing enables financial institutions to combine their capabilities while building expertise in funding large-scale decarbonisation projects.

PKO Bank Polski pointed to biomethane’s potential to combine renewable energy generation with the utilisation of local resources and circular-economy benefits. mBank similarly highlighted the sector’s contribution to sustainable economic development, renewable energy deployment and improved energy security.

The financing strengthens Galia Green Power’s ability to pursue platform-scale investments in distributed biogas facilities and centralised biomethane production infrastructure. It also signals growing institutional confidence in the commercial potential of Poland’s emerging biomethane market.
