Banas Dairy inaugurates new Bio-CNG plant in Banaskantha
The bio-CNG facility is a joint initiative of Banas Dairy, Suzuki Motor Corporation and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
A new Bio-CNG plant to process 100-metric-tonne-per-day (MTPD) of bio-waste has been inaugurated at Vinchhiwadi in Dhanera taluka of Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, strengthening the region’s dairy-linked renewable energy infrastructure.
The bio-CNG facility is a joint initiative of Banas Dairy, Suzuki Motor Corporation and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
The project is designed to convert cattle dung into Bio-CNG, creating an additional source of clean energy while supporting a waste-to-wealth model for dairy farmers.
The inauguration also marked the opening of a Bio-CNG filling station and the launch of India’s first rural cooperative-model ‘Gramin Bharat Taxi’ service, which began operations with nine vehicles.
Cattle dung to Bio-CNG
The Vinchhiwadi Bio-CNG plant can process up to 100 tonnes of cattle dung every day. Through anaerobic digestion, the organic feedstock is converted into biogas, which is subsequently purified and compressed to produce Bio-CNG. The process also generates organic manure that can be used in agriculture.
The initiative links Banaskantha’s large dairy cooperative network with renewable fuel production, allowing cattle dung generated through dairy activities to become a source of transport fuel and agricultural inputs.
Banas Dairy’s Bio-CNG programme, backed by Suzuki, has reportedly involved an investment of around Rs 250 crore. The cooperative’s network has expanded from its first plant at Dama to four operational plants, with a combined processing capacity of approximately 340 MTPD.
Expanding rural clean-energy ecosystem
The latest facility builds on the Bio-CNG infrastructure developed in Banaskantha. In December 2025, another 100-MTPD Banas Suzuki Biogas Plant was inaugurated in the Vav-Tharad area of the district. Last July, Banas Dairy announced plans to establish a new bio-CNG plant at Dhanpur in the same district.
The inauguration was attended by Toshihiro Suzuki, Chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation; Shankar Chaudhary, Chairman of Banas Dairy; and Minesh Patel, Chairman of NDDB.
