Andhra Pradesh to develop 5 Circular Economy Parks to speed-up recycling
Swachh Andhra Corporation chairman informed that the state would be setting up 107 waste processing centres to ensure scientific segregation and efficient utilisation of dry waste.
The Swachh Andhra Corporation has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish five Circular Economy Parks across Andhra Pradesh as part of its push toward sustainable and green growth. One of the proposed parks will come up in Visakhapatnam and is expected to serve as a hub for recycling industries.
Announcing the initiative at a one-day conference on Circular Economy & Green Companies in Visakhapatnam, Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram said the State is also setting up 107 waste processing centres to ensure scientific segregation and efficient utilisation of dry waste. Currently, waste is being categorised into nearly 10 streams, including plastic, glass, cardboard and e-waste, and supplied directly to recycling industries.
Going beyond the 11 categories prescribed by the Central Government, Andhra Pradesh has introduced animal waste as the 12th category. The State generates an estimated 1,300 to 1,400 tonnes of poultry waste daily. To address this, animal waste treatment plants with a combined capacity of 100 tonnes per day have been proposed in Visakhapatnam and Guntur. These facilities aim to scientifically process waste, mitigate environmental risks and convert it into value-added by-products.
A Centre of Excellence on circular economy and recycling will also be set up in Vijayawada. The centre will focus on training, research and awareness programmes in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Additionally, a real-time dashboard is being developed to help recycling industries track the availability of raw materials across the State. Pattabhiram emphasised that the government’s core objective is sustainable development driven by a “wealth from waste” approach, urging industrialists to partner in transforming Andhra Pradesh into an eco-friendly State.
Transformational Years: 2025–2030
Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself at the forefront of India’s circular economy transformation with the rollout of its Circular Economy and Waste Recycling Policy (4.0) 2025–2030. Through this forward-looking framework, the state aims to move decisively away from the traditional “take–make–dispose” model and embrace a regenerative, closed-loop system.
