Noida Authority signs LoI with Indraprastha Gas (IGL) for 300-TPD CBG project

The agreement was formalised at the authority’s office in the presence of Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh and IGL Executive Director Sanjeev Kumar Bhatia.

The Noida Authority has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) to establish a compressed biogas (CBG) plant with a capacity of 300 tonnes per day (TPD), marking a significant step toward sustainable waste management in the city.

The agreement was formalised at the authority’s office in the presence of Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh and IGL Executive Director Sanjeev Kumar Bhatia. The CBG project aligns with the Government of India’s push for renewable energy and eco-friendly urban infrastructure.

The proposed facility will process organic waste generated across Noida and convert it into compressed biogas, a cleaner alternative fuel widely used in vehicles. In addition to fuel production, the CBG plant will generate bio-manure, which can be utilised in agriculture and urban landscaping.

As per reports, the project is expected to reduce the burden on landfill sites, cut greenhouse gas emissions and promote a circular economy by transforming waste into valuable resources.

A month ago, I Am Renew reported that Noida Authority had partnered IGL for a Rs 250 for waste management that would include a CBG plant construction. Now, as part of the agreement, the Noida Authority will allocate land for the CBG plant and ensure a steady supply of segregated organic waste. IGL, leveraging its expertise in gas distribution and clean energy infrastructure, will develop the facility either independently or through authorised partners.

Krishna Karunesh said the initiative supports the authority’s vision of developing Noida into a zero-waste and sustainable city, while Bhatia highlighted that the project will enhance waste management systems and contribute to the city’s renewable energy goals.
