BPCL, CSE collaborate for biofuels & circular economy
As part of the partnership, BPCL and CSE will explore market development, capacity building and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at supporting the deployment of scalable bioenergy solutions.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on biofuels, biomass utilisation, waste-to-resource solutions and circular economy initiatives.
The partnership will cover opportunities across the biofuels value chain, with a particular focus on Compressed Biogas (CBG). Areas of cooperation will include feedstock assessment, supply chain development, biomass and waste resource management, by-product utilisation, technology evaluation, and pilot and demonstration projects.
BPCL and CSE will also explore market development, capacity building and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at supporting the deployment of scalable bioenergy solutions. The collaboration comes amid India’s efforts to expand cleaner energy alternatives while improving the sustainable management and productive use of waste and biomass resources.
The MoU will facilitate assessment and utilisation of biofuel by-products such as Fermented Organic Manure (FOM), digestate, Bio-CO₂ and Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS). The organisations will also examine opportunities to develop sustainable value chains and generate potential carbon credits from bioenergy projects.
BPCL Director (Marketing) Subhankar Sen said the partnership highlights the growing importance of collaboration in scaling sustainable energy solutions. The two organisations, he said, would combine their respective strengths to pursue opportunities that may be difficult to develop independently.
CSE Director General informed that the organisation would contribute its experience of working with municipalities and its understanding of the CBG ecosystem, while BPCL would bring industrial expertise and execution capabilities to help scale viable solutions.
The MoU provides an overarching framework for cooperation and knowledge exchange. Specific projects will be taken up through separate agreements that will outline the scope of work, responsibilities and implementation mechanisms for both organisations.
