CM Mohan Yadav lays foundation for Rs 125cr CBG project in Rewa
The facility, being developed by IOCGPS Renewable Private Limited, is expected to generate clean energy while providing additional income opportunities for farmers by purchasing agricultural residues such as straw.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has performed the groundbreaking ceremony of a Rs 125 crore compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Rewa district. The facility, being developed by IOCGPS Renewable Private Limited, is expected to generate clean energy while providing additional income opportunities for farmers by purchasing agricultural residues such as straw.
The Chief Minister also unveiled development projects worth Rs 162 crore in Tyonthar under the state’s ongoing “Vindhya Vikas Sankalp” campaign. These projects include major initiatives in infrastructure, healthcare, industry, and environmental sustainability, all aimed at accelerating the region’s economic and social growth.
Highlighting the government’s industrial push, Dr. Yadav announced the establishment of a 400-acre industrial complex in Tyonthar, which is expected to boost regional manufacturing and employment opportunities.
The CBG Project in Rewa
The CBG plant by IOCGPS Renewable Private Limited—a joint venture of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and GPS Renewables—is scheduled to begin construction on August 23, 2025. Once operational, the facility will produce 15 tons of compressed biogas daily by processing around 128 tons of agricultural waste.
The project is part of the Government of India’s Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) initiative, which aims to cut fossil fuel dependence and promote cleaner alternatives. A tripartite agreement has already been signed with GAIL (India) Limited and IndianOil-Adani Gas Private Limited (IOAGPL) for the offtake of CBG from the plant.
By integrating renewable energy generation with rural economic support, the project is expected to contribute to India’s energy security, reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels, and help achieve long-term net-zero emission goals.
The MP Government recently brought its bioenergy policy to help the sector through capital subsidies up to ₹200 crore, land concessions, tax exemptions etc. to attract investment in projects such as one biofuel plant in every development block.
Recently, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav conducted one-on-one business meetings with some notable industrialists from the state of Punjab to attract investments in green energy sector.
