GPS Renewables to manufacture agitators with German technology firm Biogastechnik Süd

The Varibull agitators will be integrated into GPS Renewables’ turnkey plant solutions and its OptiMaxx equipment portfolio, with the company also planning to explore export opportunities from India.

India’s leading biogas player GPS Renewables has announced collaboration with Germany’s Biogastechnik Süd GmbH (BGTS) to manufacture and introduce the Varibull Advanced Paddle Agitators in India. The agitators, known globally for their efficiency and durability, will now be produced at the Bengaluru facility of GPS Renewables.

This collaboration is aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of biogas and Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants across the country, while offering a cost-effective alternative to conventional agitators. Traditional mixers often face challenges in processing high-fibre feedstocks such as paddy straw and Napier grass, resulting in crust formation, sedimentation, and higher energy consumption. The Varibull Paddle Agitator is engineered to overcome these hurdles, providing superior mixing, reduced power usage, and long-term reliability.

GPS Renewables emphasized that its focus remains on bringing innovative solutions to address bottlenecks in biogas production. The partnership marks a key milestone as the company expands into a new product category, leveraging BGTS’s global expertise in agitator technology.

Mainak Chakraborty, CEO, GPS Renewables, said, “Many Indian CBG plants face crusting, sediment build-up, and frequent breakdowns due to conventional agitators. Proven paddle agitators like Varibull are purpose-built for tough substrates and will enable efficient mixing, lower energy consumption, and reliable operations.”

Gregor Maier, CEO of Biogastechnik Süd, stated. “Our mission is to deliver reliable and efficient technologies that add long-term value to biogas operators. Partnering with GPS Renewables ensures effective localization of our solutions for Indian developers.”

Robert Ohneberg, International Sales Manager at Biogastechnik Süd, added, “Our products are designed to perform under the toughest operating conditions. Many biogas and CBG plants in India struggle with uneven mixing, sedimentation, and excessive energy consumption. With GPS Renewables, we are confident that we can address these challenges effectively. The Varibull Paddle Agitator has become one of the best-selling agitators worldwide for its robustness, minimal maintenance needs, and efficiency. By bringing it to India, we aim to support developers and operators in achieving higher process stability, greater gas yields, and reduced lifecycle costs.”
