Jagatjit Industries Ltd (JIL) has officially commenced commercial production of ethanol from grain at its newly established 200 KLPD (kilolitres per day) distillery in Punjab. The facility is located at Jagatjit Nagar, Village Hamira, in Kapurthala district.
The announcement was made through a mandatory exchange filing by Company Secretary Roopesh Kumar, in compliance with SEBI’s listing regulations.
With this development, Jagatjit Industries strengthens its position in the ethanol segment, aligning with India’s push towards green fuel and reducing dependency on fossil fuels. The new grain-based distillery is part of the company’s broader diversification and sustainability efforts.
Jagatjit Industries is a leading name in the premium alcoholic beverages sector and operates one of Asia’s largest integrated distilleries for potable alcohol. It was among the first in India to build in-house capabilities for producing both molasses and grain-based alcohol through fully automated processes.
Besides alcoholic beverages, JIL also manufactures a wide range of products including malt, malt extracts, milk powder, ghee, nutritious foods, and malted milk food products.
The new ethanol production unit is expected to contribute significantly to the company’s growth while supporting the national ethanol blending programme. The new facility’s commencement has come at a point when the speculations are high on the government on pushing the ethanol blending target with petrol from 20% to 27%.
The National Policy on Biofuels permits use of food grains during surplus phase as declared by the National Biofuel Coordination Committee. This Policy also promotes and encourages use of feedstock such as corn, cassava, rotten potatoes, damaged food grains like broken rice, food grains unfit for human consumption, maize, sugarcane juice & molasses, agriculture residues (Rice straw, cotton stalk, corn cobs, saw dust, bagasse etc.).
