Vanya Steels to build Rs 100cr waste-to-energy project in Karnataka
The waste to energy plant is designed to meet the captive power requirements of Vanya Steels and advance the sustainability goals. It is scheduled to become operational by July 31, 2025.
The A-One Steel Group subsidiary – Vanya Steels – has said that it will be investing Rs 100 crore towards the development of a 10 MW waste-to-energy (WtE) power plant at its manufacturing complex in Koppal, Karnataka.
The waste to energy plant is designed to meet the captive power requirements of Vanya Steels and advance the sustainability goals. It is scheduled to become operational by July 31, 2025.
The waste to energy project will leverage Waste Heat Recovery Boiler (WHRB) technology to convert excess heat from steel manufacturing processes into clean electricity. This approach allows Vanya Steels to harness industrial waste heat—traditionally released into the environment—and convert it into usable energy.

The new plant will help Vanya Steels reduce its dependence on grid power, lower energy costs, and significantly cut carbon emissions. It also supports broader national objectives such as energy self-sufficiency and environmental stewardship under the AatmaNirbhar Bharat initiative.
The Koppal-based unit currently manufactures high-grade sponge iron and semi-processed steel products. With this upcoming power plant, Vanya Steels is reinforcing its commitment to clean energy innovation and sustainable industrial practices.
