New ethanol plant inaugurated in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh

A new ethanol production plant has been inaugurated in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh. The ethanol plant has been set up by Brajdev Ethanol Pvt Ltd in Semariha village of Haliya block and has been inaugurated by Arun Singh, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha.

The ethanol unit is located in an economically backward area which is about 50 km from the Mirzapur district headquarters. The project is expected to provide a major boost to local development. Speaking at the inauguration, Singh said the project would create employment opportunities for nearly 1,000 people and fulfil a long-standing aspiration to bring large-scale industry to the district. He added that the establishment of such facilities often catalyses growth in surrounding areas.

The plant is expected to offer stable market access to farmers cultivating paddy and maize in the region. Managing Director Devesh Giri also said that the ethanol plant will consume about 500 tonnes of rice and maize daily, with rice currently supplied by the Food Corporation of India (FCI). The facility has a production capacity of two lakh litres of ethanol per day.

The ethanol produced will be supplied to oil marketing companies such as Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd for blending with conventional fuels, supporting the country’s cleaner energy goals.

Currently, the company employs around 150 technical staff and 200 non-technical workers, while an estimated 500 people are engaged indirectly. Officials said 70 to 80 vehicles operate daily in connection with the plant’s activities.

Uttar Pradesh is India’s leading ethanol player, next to Maharashtra, with 331 crore litres of installed capacity. ESY 2024-25 data shows that the state hosts 78 functional distilleries and the government informed that as of November 2025, Uttar Pradesh achieved a record production of 182 crore litres of ethanol.
