Modi Naturals begins commercial operations of Chhattisgarh ethanol plant
The plant’s installed capacity has been increased from 130 kilo litres per day (KLPD) to 282 KLPD, reflecting a substantial addition of 152 KLPD.
Modi Naturals has announced the commencement of commercial operations at its expanded grain-based ethanol plant through its wholly owned subsidiary, Modi Biotech Private Limited. The facility, located in Chhattisgarh, has undergone a significant capacity expansion, reinforcing the company’s position in India’s growing ethanol sector.
The plant’s installed capacity has been increased from 130 kilo litres per day (KLPD) to 282 KLPD, reflecting a substantial addition of 152 KLPD. This marks a 117 per cent increase, more than doubling the facility’s earlier production capability. With commercial operations now underway, the upgraded plant is fully active and expected to play a key role in the company’s manufacturing portfolio.
The development was disclosed under Regulation 30 of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. Modi Naturals formally notified stock exchanges BSE and NSE about the operationalisation of the expanded unit.
The expansion aligns with the company’s strategic focus on strengthening its footprint in the ethanol segment. It also supports the Government of India’s Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme, which aims to increase ethanol blending in fuel and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
According to the company, the enhanced capacity is expected to improve operational efficiencies while significantly boosting production volumes. The Chhattisgarh facility is now positioned as a key production hub for Modi Biotech, contributing to the company’s future growth and its role in advancing India’s biofuel ambitions.
With rising demand for ethanol driven by policy support and sustainability goals, the expansion is likely to enhance Modi Naturals’ ability to cater to the evolving energy market.
Modi Naturals had announced in December 2024 that Modi Biotech had initiated construction and placed orders for a new ethanol expansion project that will add 180 KLD to its existing production capacity. This expansion, with a capital investment of Rs. 100 crores, ought to be completed within 8-10 months.
