IFGE, Global Ethanol Association collaborate for advance ethanol
Under the partnership, IFGE and GEA will work together to accelerate the deployment of ethanol as a viable marine fuel, supporting global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping.
The Indian Federation of Green Energy (IFGE) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Global Ethanol Association (GEA) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting ethanol as a sustainable green fuel, with particular emphasis on its adoption in the marine sector, as well as its applications in road transport and civil aviation.
The MoU was signed by Sanjay Ganjoo, Director General of IFGE, and Morten Jacobsen, Secretary General of GEA, marking an important milestone in strengthening international collaboration in the bioenergy and green fuels space.
Under the partnership, IFGE and GEA will work together to accelerate the deployment of ethanol as a viable marine fuel, supporting global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. The collaboration will focus on fostering innovation, policy advocacy, and market development while promoting ethanol-based solutions across multiple transport segments. GEA will contribute its global expertise by sharing research publications, technical studies, and international best practices related to ethanol and sustainable marine fuels.
Both IFGE and GEA will also undertake joint promotional and advocacy initiatives to highlight ethanol’s potential as a clean, scalable, and commercially viable alternative fuel.
Atul Mulay, Chairman of the IFGE BioEnergy Committee and President of Praj Industries, said that the MoU represents a crucial step in building international market linkages for ethanol, particularly in emerging applications such as marine fuels. He noted that the partnership would help create new global opportunities for IFGE members and Indian companies across the ethanol value chain.
GEA Secretary General Morten Jacobsen described the collaboration as a pivotal moment for global decarbonization efforts. The partnership, he added, will strengthen international linkages and accelerate the transition to cleaner energy solutions across maritime transport, aviation, and road mobility.
As part of the agreement, IFGE will actively engage with GEA to explore market opportunities and assess the feasibility of ethanol-based green energy solutions in India and abroad. The two bodies will jointly organize workshops, seminars, and stakeholder engagements to build awareness and advance the ethanol-based marine fuel ecosystem.
