JKSH reveals Rs 35,000 crore investment plan in green hydrogen in Machilipatnam
JKSH said that the project will be entirely powered by renewable energy and commercial operations would start by 2029.
In a major boost to investments and industrial development in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district, JK Srivastava & Hynfra (JKSH) Limited is set to establish a large-scale green energy facility in Machilipatnam. The ambitious project will include a 150 KTPA green hydrogen and 600 KTPA green ammonia plant. The total proposed investment in the project is Rs 35,000 crore.
JKSH said that the project is expected to generate approximately 10,000 employment opportunities and will be entirely powered by renewable sources such as solar and wind energy, supported by battery storage systems and advanced energy management technologies. Commercial operations are targeted to begin by 2029.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalizing the project was recently signed between JKSH and the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP), in the presence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Originally proposed for Visakhapatnam, the project was relocated to Krishna district due to the availability of a vast land bank, making it an ideal location for mega infrastructure ventures.
Proximity to the under-construction Machilipatnam port has further strengthened the area’s appeal. The port, which is closest to Andhra Pradesh’s capital and Telangana, is already 50% complete, with operations expected to commence by the end of 2026.
The decision to locate the green hydrogen and ammonia project in Machilipatnam aligns with the TDP-led NDA government’s vision of transforming Krishna district into a green industrial hub. The initiative adds to the growing list of industrial interests in the region, following proposals by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to set up an oil refinery and petrochemical complex, and plans by Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) to develop a mega logistics hub.
With the JKSH project now gaining momentum, Krishna district is poised for a significant leap in industrial and economic development.
The Andhra Pradesh government notified its Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia Policy 2023 under which the state targets to produce 0.5 MTPA of Green Hydrogen by 2028. Recently, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated Rs 1,000-crore green hydrogen plant of Hero Future Energies (HFE) in Tirupati.
