Atirath to invest ₹4,000 cr in bio-CNG across Telangana
The company has signed an agreement with the Telangana government to set up 25 CBG plants across multiple locations in the State.
Atirath Holdings India has announced a ₹4,000-crore investment to expand bio-compressed natural gas (bio-CNG) infrastructure in Telangana, reinforcing the State’s push towards clean and sustainable energy. The company has signed an agreement with the Telangana government to set up 25 compressed bio-gas (CBG) plants across multiple locations in the State.
Each plant will have a processing capacity of 20 tonnes per day (TPD), enabling large-scale production and distribution of bio-CNG for automotive, industrial and commercial use. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, marking a significant milestone in Telangana’s green energy roadmap.
Athirath Holdings is a newly incorporated company operational since 6 months only.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the first CBG plant is scheduled to be held in January in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. According to the project timeline, the facility is expected to be fully operational within 15 months, reflecting an accelerated execution plan.
Bio-CNG, also known as compressed bio-gas, is produced from organic waste through anaerobic digestion and subsequent purification. With a methane content exceeding 98 per cent, it closely matches the quality of conventional CNG, making it a viable and cleaner alternative to fossil-based fuels.
Commenting on the investment, Atirath Holdings Chairman Lt. R. Balakrishnan said the initiative aligns with Telangana’s emphasis on clean energy adoption and environmental sustainability. The project is also expected to generate local employment and support the circular economy by converting organic waste into valuable energy.
Earlier, Atirath Holdings had signed a similar memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government to establish 25 CBG plants with a cumulative investment of ₹4,000 crore. Together, these projects underline the company’s broader strategy to scale up renewable fuel infrastructure across South India.
Also, Atirath had signed an MoU with ECOFINITY bringing them on board as technology partner for bio-CNG projects.
