IIP Delhi, PPRDC introduce certificate course on plastics recycling

Delhi based Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) and Plastics Packaging Research & Development Centre (PPRDC) have together launched a three-month professional certificate course on Plastics—Packaging & Recycling. The programme aims to equip students and industry professionals with technical expertise in plastics recycling, capabilities to design circular systems, and a comprehensive understanding of packaging materials.

The course was inaugurated at IIP Delhi in the presence of senior officials and industry leaders, including RK Mishra, Director of IIP; Prof. Tanweer Alam, Prof. Anup Ghosh, Dr. Alka Rao, Advisor of FSSAI; Mihir Banerji, Secretary General of PPRDC and Ashwani Sharma, President and CEO – Aseptic Packaging Business, UFlex Ltd., among others from academia and industry.

Designed as a hybrid learning programme, the course integrates classroom instruction with industry exposure and hands-on training. It seeks to address critical skill gaps in plastics recycling, sustainable packaging, and the implementation of circular economy practices. The curriculum offers in-depth coverage of plastic packaging materials, recycling technologies, regulatory frameworks, and end-of-life solutions, with a strong focus on India’s evolving policy environment and extended producer responsibility (EPR) norms.

Spanning three months, the programme comprises 15 sessions covering 32 subjects, delivered by more than 21 expert faculty members. It is targeted at engineering graduates, diploma holders, working professionals, entrepreneurs, start-ups, and process teams looking to build or strengthen expertise in plastics recycling and sustainable packaging.

Participants will benefit from industry visits, laboratory sessions, and case-based learning to develop applied, real-world knowledge. Selected candidates will also gain opportunities for industry interaction, mentorship, and project work, supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in a rapidly growing sector.
