WABAG, Peak Sustainability Ventures collaborate for 100 bio-CNG plants

VA Tech Wabag Limited (WABAG), a prominent Indian multinational specializing in water technology, has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Peak Sustainability Ventures (PEAK) to set up 100 Bio-CNG plants at sewage treatment facilities. These plants will be established across India as well as in mutually agreed-upon locations in the GCC, Africa, and Europe, as per the company’s announcement in an exchange filing.

The objective of this collaboration is to leverage the untapped potential of sewage treatment plants to produce Bio-CNG, which can be utilized for various purposes including powering trucks, heavy-duty vehicles, and industrial applications, thereby reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

The business venture of establishing 100 Bio-CNG plants is anticipated to exceed $ 200 million in potential revenue, aiming to produce over 73 million kilograms of Bio-CNG annually.

On the prospective Bio-CNG projects, Shailesh Kumar, CEO for India Cluster, WABAG said that WABAG has always been a frontrunner in terms of implementing sustainable solutions and in generating green energy. WABAG is already producing more than 40 MWh of green energy through its various installed plants.

This aligns perfectly with vision of implementing sustainable solutions for a better life,” Kumar added on the Bio-CNG projects.

Indian Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has also announced that 100 biogas plants will be established in the state of Uttar Pradesh in coming years. Recently, Thermax, a global provider of biomass-based green energy solutions, secured a significant ₹500 crore order to establish five bio-CNG plants for a prominent conglomerate.
