Petronet, IOCL will develop 25 CBG plants together across India
While IOCL will provide EPCM services, Petronet LNG will lead project implementation by arranging land, securing statutory approvals, and managing feedstock sourcing and gas offtake arrangements.
Government owned Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) has announced to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at India Energy Week-2026 to jointly develop 25 Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants across the country. The objective stated is to strengthen India’s push towards cleaner and more sustainable energy.
Petronet LNG held on social media, “The MoU was signed in the presence of Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon’ble Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Akshay Kumar Singh, Managing Director & CEO, PLL and Arvinder Singh Sahney, Chairman, Indian Oil Corporation Limited.”
Under the agreement, IOCL will provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) services for the projects, drawing on its extensive technical and execution expertise.
Petronet LNG will lead project implementation by arranging land, securing statutory approvals, and managing feedstock sourcing and gas offtake arrangements.
“This partnership leverages IOCL’s deep technical expertise and PLL’s infrastructure leadership to establish a robust model for the CBG sector, providing a scalable framework to support India’s green energy and net-zero goals,” said Petronet LNG. The initiative is expected to strengthen India’s bio-energy value chain, promote waste-to-energy solutions and support circular economy practices.
The development of CBG plants will contribute to key national priorities, including energy security, reduction in carbon emissions, rural employment generation and diversification of the energy mix. The partnership aligns with the Government of India’s Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) initiative and the country’s broader net-zero ambitions.
