NTPC to develop green hydrogen projects in UP

The central PSU’s NGEL singed a deal with the state government of Uttar Pradesh on the sidelines of World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos to bolster green hydrogen.

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Uttar Pradesh for the development of renewable energy and green hydrogen projects in the state.

The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. The agreement focuses specifically on providing renewable energy solutions to support upcoming green hydrogen projects in Uttar Pradesh, aligning with the state’s clean energy and decarbonisation goals.

The MoU was signed by Vijay Kiran Anand, IAS, CEO of Invest UP and UPSIDA, and DMR Panda, Executive Director, NGEL, in the presence of Uttar Pradesh’s Minister of Finance and Parliamentary Affairs, Suresh Kumar Khanna, along with senior officials from the Uttar Pradesh government and NTPC/NGEL.

The collaboration is expected to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s position in India’s emerging green hydrogen ecosystem while accelerating the adoption of renewable energy across the state.

Footprints in UP

Recently, NTPC Limited’s research and development arm, NETRA, held that it would be commissioning a plasma gasification–based green hydrogen plant at its campus in Greater Noida, UP. The proposed facility would have the capacity to produce one tonne of green hydrogen per day, marking another step in NTPC strategy to scale up its clean energy and sustainability initiatives.
