NTPC to build green hydrogen plant in Greater Noida
The plant will deploy advanced plasma gasification technology to convert waste into syngas, a clean fuel gas that is free from tar, which will be used to get green hydrogen.
NTPC Limited’s research and development arm, NETRA, is set to commission a plasma gasification–based green hydrogen plant at its campus in Greater Noida. According to an official release, the proposed facility will have the capacity to produce one tonne of green hydrogen per day, marking another step in NTPC strategy to scale up its clean energy and sustainability initiatives.
The plant will deploy advanced plasma gasification technology to convert waste into syngas, a clean fuel gas that is free from tar. This syngas will then be processed to extract hydrogen using purification systems such as pressure swing adsorption (PSA) or membrane-based separation technologies.
NTPC held that municipal solid waste and agricultural residues will serve as the primary feedstock, reinforcing the project’s waste-to-energy and circular economy objectives.
New Engine For Green Energy
NTPC currently supplies nearly one-fourth of India’s electricity and operates an installed power capacity of over 85 GW. The company is also in the process of adding 30.90 GW of new capacity, of which 13.3 GW will come from renewable energy sources, including solar and wind. As per its long-term roadmap, NTPC aims to achieve a total installed capacity of 149 GW by 2032, including 60 GW from renewables, and further scale up to 244 GW by 2037.
