MethanoBoost Catalyst by Organic Recycling Systems (ORS) enhancing biogas yield
ORS says that the catalyst can increase methane yield by up to 30%, while improving process stability and substrate-to-biogas conversion efficiency.
Organic Recycling Systems (ORS) has announced a major breakthrough in Compressed Biogas (CBG) technology with the validation of its MethanoBoost Catalyst (MBC) by the Sardar Swarn Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE). The institute’s independent evaluation confirmed MBC’s ability to significantly improve biomethane yield and overall process efficiency in anaerobic digestion systems.
MBC is a proprietary catalyst developed by ORS to enhance both biomethane generation and digestate enrichment. Formulated with dispersed nanoparticles, it enables in-situ CO₂ methanation, thereby boosting methane production.
According to ORS, the catalyst can increase methane yield by up to 30%, while improving process stability and substrate-to-biogas conversion efficiency.
The validation by SSS-NIBE follows rigorous laboratory tests and pilot-scale trials, which demonstrated MBC’s ability to improve redox conductivity, support direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET), and stabilize pH buffering—critical factors for efficient hydrolysis and methanogenesis.
Designed for scalability, MBC is particularly effective with lignocellulosic substrates such as Napier grass and paddy straw. Beyond enhancing biomethane output, it also enriches digestate quality, making it valuable for integrated waste-to-bioenergy and biofertilizer applications.
ORS noted that the adoption of MBC not only improves plant profitability through higher methane yields but also contributes to more sustainable CBG operations, reinforcing India’s clean energy transition.
In April, SSS-NIBE and ORS Ltd commissioned pilot biogas plant at ORSL’s Solapur waste management facility. The project is focused on utilizing Napier grass and other agricultural residues for anaerobic digestion, now transitioning from research to practical implementation.
