Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu unveiled a series of initiatives in Kakinada district, highlighting his government’s vision to convert waste-into-wealth under the Swarnandhra–Swachandhra programme.
Addressing a public gathering, Naidu said household waste could be transformed into valuable resources, stressing composting at home, strict enforcement of the single-use plastic ban, and systematic recycling of e-waste. To streamline waste management, he announced that collection vehicles would soon reach households to pick up discarded plastics and electronic waste for monetisation.
A key announcement was the establishment of a 15 MW waste-to-energy plant at Peddapuram, which will process municipal refuse from across Kakinada district to generate power. With an estimated cost of ₹330 crore, the plant is expected to be completed within 18 months.
To encourage community participation, the Chief Minister also introduced the Swachandhra Awards, to be presented on October 2 across 16 categories—including clean municipalities, gram panchayats, bus stations, NGOs, and green ambassadors. “By 2047, Andhra Pradesh should evolve into Swarna Andhra Pradesh and become the number one state in the country,” Naidu said.
Other Key Announcements
Alongside the waste management initiatives, Naidu assured residents that a 100-bed hospital would be built in Peddapuram, while ₹75 crore will be allocated to improve drinking water facilities in Peddapuram and Samarlakota.

He stated that public health is the most important thing his government will do everything for poor. Naidu also added that the NDA government in the state is committed to creating wealth, boosting incomes, and redistributing it through welfare measures.
