Geneva Motor Show 2019: Mahindra’s Battista & Tata’s Altroz Launched

Pininfarina unveils 1900 BHP Battista electric supercar

Automobili Pininfarina, the designer of iconic Ferrari cars and now a part of India’s Mahindra Group, unveiled on Tuesday the Battista, a 1900 BHP, 2300 NM electric supercar that is touted to be faster than a Formula 1 car in its 0-100km/h, sub-two second sprint. Named after Pininfarina’s founder, the Battista is the legendary car designer’s first production car—and an electric one at that.

When it arrives in 2020, the Battista will be the most powerful car ever designed and built in Italy. It reportedly has the potential to accelerate to 62 mph in less than two seconds, faster than a Formula 1 car, and break the 250 mph top speed barrier—all with a potential zero-emission range of over 300 miles( 482 kms), the company said.

No more than 150 Battistas will be handcrafted in Italy and allocated equally among the regions of North America, Europe and Middle East/Asia, Pininfarina added.

Tata Altroz EV Showcased; To be Launched In 2020 in India

After rolling out electric versions of the Tiago and Tigor, Tata Motors continues to bet big on electric vehicles. The carmaker’s latest electrification attempt is the new Altroz-based electric hatchback. Unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show, the Altroz EV is based on the ALFA-ARC architecture which supports electrification as well.

The Altroz EV has the same exterior dimensions as the regular Altroz, which was revealed simultaneously in Geneva.

Tata claims that it will take 60 minutes to charge from zero to 80 per cent. The claimed range is 250-300km which is likely to vary in the real world. The Altroz EV will have a longer range than the Tata Tigor EV (130km claimed) and Mahindra eVerito (140km claimed range). That said, it is also expected to cost higher than both these cars. The eVerito, for example, is priced at Rs 10.47 lakh (D6 FC variant, the price is inclusive of FAME subsidy).

While the Altroz EV will be launched in India in 2020, it is not coming anytime before the month of April. And when it does come to India, it will be one of the first long-range EVs from Tata and amongst the first few long-range EVs on offer in the country. It will compete with the Hyundai Kona, Nissan Leaf and upcoming unnamed MG electric SUV. Therefore, we can easily expect the price to be in excess of Rs 15 lakh at its Indian launch.
