REI Expo-2026 culminated in Rs 3,200 crore investment for India’s biogas sector: Indian Biogas Association (IBA)

India’s biogas and compressed biogas (CBG) sector attracted investment pledges exceeding ₹3,200 crore at the Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo-2026, highlighting growing investor confidence in the country’s bioenergy and circular economy landscape, according to the Indian Biogas Association (IBA).

The three-day exhibition, held from October 22 to 24 at the India Expo Mart & Centre in Greater Noida, brought together industry stakeholders, technology providers, investors and project developers to explore business partnerships, innovative solutions and opportunities to scale up domestic bioenergy production.

According to the IBA, the event generated an estimated investment pipeline of over ₹3,200 crore for the biogas and CBG industry. The exhibition showcased technologies across waste-to-energy, biogas upgrading, CBG production, biomass utilisation and organic waste management, underlining the growing commercial potential of converting organic waste and agricultural residues into clean energy.

As part of the expo, the IBA organised the International Bio-Energy Conference on October 24. The conference featured discussions on building an integrated CBG ecosystem, mobilising investments, improving technology efficiency and exploring next-generation renewable fuels. Key deliberations also covered feedstock management, project financing and strategies to make bioenergy projects commercially viable.

The expo comes amid the government’s push to accelerate India’s bioenergy transition through the Rs 23,731 crore GOBARdhan National Circular Bioenergy Scheme. With provisions aimed at strengthening pricing frameworks, assured offtake and financial support, the scheme is expected to improve project viability and encourage investments in commercially scalable CBG infrastructure.

Commenting on the investment interest, Gaurav Kedia, Chairman, Indian Biogas Association, said that commitments exceeding Rs 3,200 crore reflected growing confidence in India’s bioenergy sector. However, he emphasised that the next challenge would be translating investment interest into financially viable and operational projects.
