Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced that the state will set up a compressed biogas plant in Gambhiraopet mandal, aiming to reduce pollution from paddy straw burning and enhance farmers’ livelihoods.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, attended by Ministers D Sridhar Babu, Tummala Nageshwar Rao, and Ponnam Prabhakar, Vikramarka said the innovative initiative will convert paddy straw into biogas, helping protect the environment and provide clean air to communities. The plant will be developed by Biostratam Technologies Private Limited.
He stated that air quality has went down due to stubble burning in fields and to address this conundrum the state government is aggressively promoting biogas plants. He said that this would not only reduce pollution but also offer farmers additional income.
Last year, the Telangana government secured more than Rs 1,500 crore for the establishment of world-class CBG plants across the state. GPS Renewables announced an investment Rs 2,000 crore in Telangana to develop 15 compressed biogas plants, each with a capacity of 15 tonnes per day.
This was followed by an announcement by Atirath Holdings India for an investment of Rs 4,000-crore to expand biogas infrastructure in the southern state.
Recently, Hyderabad based Juno Joule Bio Fuels had begun the construction of its flagship CBG project in Siddipet district. The project forms part of a larger cluster development plan comprising 10 CBG plants, each with a capacity of 10 tonnes per day (TPD), with a total planned investment of Rs 700 crore.
