NTPC invites bids for hydrogen refueling station at Kandla Port

NTPC Green Energy Limited, a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has issued a domestic competitive tender to establish a Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) under its Green Hydrogen Mobility Project in Kandla, Gujarat.

The invitation to bid seeks qualified bidders to execute the project on a turnkey basis, encompassing design, engineering, supply, construction, commissioning, and a decade of operation and maintenance.

The proposed hydrogen refueling station will integrate with a 210 kg per day electrolyser system supplied by NTPC Green Energy. The selected contractor will be responsible for delivering a fully integrated hydrogen ecosystem, including hydrogen compression, storage, dispensing, and safety systems.

Key technical elements of the project include a hydrogen compression system capable of 20 kg per hour up to 500 bar, a storage facility with a 540 kg capacity at 500 bar, and a dispenser system for refueling up to 11 fuel cell electric vehicles at 350 bar.

The project will also feature nitrogen generation and fire suppression systems to ensure operational safety, an integrated control system with SCADA and energy management capabilities, and comprehensive safety studies such as HAZOP, SIL, HIRA, and QRA assessments.

In addition, civil and electrical works, high-tension system integration, and the construction of an office-cum-switchgear facility are part of the scope.

Bidders must submit their proposals by May 21, 2026, with techno-commercial bids scheduled to open the following day. A bid security of Rs 1 crore is required, and participation is limited to Class-I and Class-II local suppliers under the Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order.

Eligible bidders should demonstrate prior experience in hydrogen refueling, hydrogen generation, CNG refueling infrastructure, or EPC execution in energy and process industries. Financial criteria include a minimum average annual turnover of Rs 59 crore over the past three financial years, along with specified net worth requirements.

The Kandla hydrogen refueling station is part of NTPC Green Energy’s broader strategy to bolster India’s green hydrogen mobility ecosystem. It is expected to serve as a key demonstration project for hydrogen-based transport infrastructure in the country.
