The NHPC signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2015 with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to set up 250 MW of solar projects in the country. NHPC has also made a commitment to the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) to set up a minimum of 430 MW of renewable energy projects in the next five years as part of the Green Energy Commitment.

In July, it also received the go-ahead signal from State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) for 260 MW of grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) projects to be developed in Bihar.
