Antony Waste Handling Cell (AWHCL) announced that its material subsidiary, Antony Lara Enviro Solutions, has bagged two major contracts worth a combined ₹3,200 crore to develop Waste-to-Energy (WTE) plants in Andhra Pradesh.
The projects, awarded by the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP), involve setting up two ~15 MW WTE facilities—one each at Kadapa and Kurnool. Each plant carries a project cost of around Rs 1,600 crore and will be completed within 24 months of signing the concession agreements, power purchase agreements or land transfer, whichever occurs later. The contracts come with a 20-year concession period.
Under the arrangement, the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL) will purchase electricity generated at a fixed tariff of ₹8.10 per unit. Both facilities will include advanced Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) for automated sorting, recycling, and processing of municipal solid waste before it undergoes thermal treatment in high-efficiency incinerators to generate renewable electricity.
The projects are expected to divert thousands of tonnes of waste from landfills every day, curb greenhouse gas emissions, and support the government’s renewable energy goals as well as the Swachh Bharat Mission. Once operational, AWHCL’s total clean energy capacity will increase to nearly 44 MW.
Jose Jacob, Chairman & Managing Director, Antony Waste Handling Cell, stated, “The Company is honored to be selected by Andhra Pradesh Government for these landmark Waste-to-Energy projects, underscoring its proven technical leadership, strong execution capabilities, and deep commitment to sustainable waste management. By converting waste into clean, renewable energy, the Company addresses critical environmental and energy challenges while advancing Andhra Pradesh’s vision for a greener, cleaner future.”
AWHCL added that the projects will not only strengthen its renewable energy portfolio but also diversify its revenue streams and create long-term value for stakeholders, cementing its position as a key player in India’s clean energy transition.
