Vireo has selected Nordsol as the technology partner for biogas upgrading and liquefaction at its upcoming Lista Biogass facility in Farsund, southern Norway. The plant will be located at Lista Fly- og Næringspark and will produce fossil-free bio-LNG for transport and industrial use.
The Lista Biogass plant is designed to process a diverse feedstock mix, including manure, fish waste and food fats, with an annual capacity of around 160,000 cubic metres. Once operational, it is expected to generate approximately 90 GWh of bio-LNG per year. Construction is planned to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with commercial production targeted for the first quarter of 2028. All output from the facility will be supplied to Nordic energy company Gasum under a long-term offtake agreement.
Léon van Bossum, CEO of Nordsol, “Vireo is putting further trust in Nordsol by selecting them for our next project. Based on the performance so far on the Hardanger project, I am convinced that Nordsol will continue their level of professionalism by delivering good quality of technology and workmanship to our next project.”
The Lista project follows the ongoing Hardanger biogas project and is expected to play a role in expanding Norway’s bio-LNG infrastructure. By utilising challenging organic residues, the facility will contribute to reducing emissions in heavy transport and industrial sectors, in line with national climate goals.
Reinhard Lund-Mikkelson, CEO of Vireo, said the company’s decision reflects confidence in Nordsol’s performance on earlier projects. He added that Nordsol’s technology and execution standards would be key to the successful delivery of the Lista facility.
Nordsol’s decentralised, small-scale liquefaction technology integrates directly with biogas upgrading systems, enabling efficient on-site conversion of biogas into bio-LNG and supporting emission reductions in hard-to-abate sectors such as long-haul transport and maritime applications.
