Maharashtra: L&T Gets 3 GW Saidongar-1 PSP Order From Torrent

L&T’s Heavy Civil Infrastructure business vertical has secured a large order from Torrent Energy Storage Solutions Pvt Ltd (earlier known as Torrent PSH 3 Pvt Ltd) to construct the 3,000 MW Saidongar-1 Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in Raigad, Maharashtra.

In a press release, L&T said it has secured the PSP order, which comprises ten units of 300 MW each. The company would undertake the design, engineering, and execution of all civil and hydro-mechanical works associated with the project. The PSP project is expected to enhance grid reliability and energy security for Maharashtra and beyond.

Pumped storage projects like Saidongar-1 are vital to ensuring grid stability and meeting peak power demand. By storing surplus energy and releasing it during high-demand periods, they provide a reliable and flexible solution that will strengthen India’s energy security and support long-term decarbonisation goals.

While a project completion date has not been specified, such projects will take 36 to 60 months to complete, owing to the sheer scale and permits involved. The environment clearance for this project came in January 2025.

Previous PSP Projects in Maharashtra

Previously, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Heavy Civil Infrastructure (HCI) business vertical collaborated with companies such as JSW Energy to execute a significant order for the Bhavali Pumped Storage Project (PSP) in Maharashtra. The company secured this order in 2025 for 1,500 MW of installed capacity, comprising various small units, with the project located across the Nashik and Thane districts of the state.

Other companies like Torrent Power Ltd have won a letter of award in the state. For instance, Torrent in 2024 secured an order from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for long-term supply of 2,000 MW energy storage capacity from Torrent Power’s InSTS Connected Pumped Hydro Storage Plant in Maharashtra.
