Vikram Solar Commissions ONGC’s Solar Plant in Gujarat

The solar plant has been built to meet ONGC’s captive power usage, and the power project will power ONGC’s Dahej, Gandhar and Hazira plant situated in Gujarat. This turnkey project will meet the Renewable Power obligation (RPO) of ONGC for Gujarat region.

The project is spread across 56 acres of land and the 10 MW project facility has been powered with 44,144 modules.

Vikram Solar is of course a tier 1 manufacturer of Solar modules, with an annual capacity of 1 GW. The shift into the services side of the business was a natural extension for the firm as the market opened up in the past few years.

Making ONGC  a little greener

According to Vikram Solar’s statement, the plant is segregated into eight blocks of 1.25 MW each for better management and increasing efficiency. The use of polycrystalline technology will ensure that the system is self-sufficient in generating power. The firm will also provide Operations and Maintenance (O&M) service to the plant for a period of three years from the date of commissioning.

The company reportedly has 750 MW capacity including commissioned and under execution projects all across the country.

The ONGC’s Gujarat project was tendered in December 2016 by Rajasthan Electronic and Instruments Ltd. (REIL) on behalf of ONGC.

Many other PSUs like GAIL, IOCL and many others are also investing in solar energy. Earlier, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), a subsidiary of India’s state Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC), commissioned solar projects aggregating 6.063 MW within the MRPL refinery premises in Mangalore, Karnataka.

In March, Vikram Solar also commissioned its first project for the defence sector. The 350KW rooftop solar power unit has been installed at Gun and Shell Factory (GSF) in Cossipore, Kolkata. Last Year in September, Vikram Solar had commissioned 80 MW of solar at Gujarat’s Charanka Solar Park for Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GIPCL). The capacity comprised of two projects of 40 MW each.

Vikram Solar already has a  list of government clients which includes such leading names as ISRO, SBI, WBSEDCL, IOCL and AAI. From the private sector, its major clients include SL Group, IMFA, Century Ply, KBL, and Anmol Biscuits.
