Verde Hydrogen Signs Landmark Agreement for 2MW Green Hydrogen Project in Morocco

The Boston-based Verde Hydrogen recently announced the signing of an agreement to develop and commission a 2MW green hydrogen electrolyzer project in Morocco. The project is expected to be completed by early 2024 and marks a significant milestone for Verde Hydrogen. Further, it is also significant development for the growing green hydrogen market in North Africa.

This green hydrogen project adopts Verde Hydrogen’s 2MW (Verde-400) containerized electrolyzer with 5 modules in total including two 20ft containers and two 40ft containers in a highly compact design. The Verde-400 pressurized electrolyzer has a production capacity of 400 Nm3 of hydrogen per hour with 99.9995% purity and 16barg/232psig pressure directly from the system. The unit complies with ISO22734, IEC, CE, and ASME standards.

VERDE’s CEO Steve Cameron expressed excitement and said, “I am confident the Verde Team will be successful in meeting all commitments. We believe this will be just the first of many installations we will have in this region that will play a crucial role in the hydrogen economy’s development”.

This initiative follows a series of announcements by international companies expressing their intentions to construct green hydrogen plants in the North African Kingdom. Green hydrogen, which is produced using electricity from renewable sources like solar, wind, and hydro, offers a carbon-neutral alternative with no CO2 emissions. The production process, known as electrolysis, involves using electricity to split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.

Verde Hydrogen specializes in state-of-the-art hydrogen electrolyzers, including the world’s largest containerized single-stack electrolyzer and multi-GW hydrogen electrolyzer combinations. Over the past few years, Verde Hydrogen’s R&D team has developed many breakthrough technologies, including a patented hydrogen electrolyzer, optimized cell architecture, and balance of plant, leading to advancements in higher efficiency, lower cost, and long-term reliability.

Morocco aims to build a strong green economy by focusing on hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol. The country is committed to transitioning to clean energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Morocco’s abundant renewable energy resources provide a solid foundation for green hydrogen development, serving as a catalyst for economic growth and bolstering energy security within the Kingdom.
