Tecnimont to set up waste-to-biogas plant in Odisha’s Paradip

Tecnimont has announced that its Indian subsidiary, Tecnimont Private Limited (TCMPL), has partnered with Paradeep Municipality and the National Institute of Technology, Karnataka – Surathkal (NITK) to establish a biogas plant in Paradip Municipality of Jagatsinghpur District in Odisha.

Tecnimont is part of MAIRE’s Integrated E&C Solutions and has said that this biogas initiative is part of TCMPL’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts in India.

The biogas plant promotes circular solutions for efficient organic waste management. Specifically, it will enable Paradip Municipality to produce biogas by converting food and vegetable waste through anaerobic digestion.

The resulting biogas will be utilized in community kitchens, supporting sustainable practices.

This project not only generates local employment opportunities in waste collection but also provides educational benefits. It serves as a model for innovative solutions and involves university students in hands-on learning experiences.

In 2021, a pilot biogas plant was inaugurated at the NITK campus. This facility supports research and enhances the campus’s energy self-sufficiency by converting food and vegetable waste from hostels and canteens into energy.

Tecnimont has been delving into a range of green energy projects in the country to give speed to decarbonisation efforts. Recently, Tecnimont Private Limited, a subsidiary of Tecnimont in India, had inaugurated the GAIL green hydrogen production plant in Vijaipur in Guna District of Madhya Pradesh. Tecnimont had built the green hydrogen plant in collaboration with NEXTCHEM.
