Bioenergy company REnergy Dynamics (RED) has been awarded two waste-to-compressed biogas (CBG) projects by Refex Renewables in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
The projects comprise a 12.5 tonnes-per-day (TPD) CBG plant in Coimbatore and a 10 TPD facility in Salem. Both plants will use the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (MSW) as feedstock.
As per the official statement, the CBG projects will employ a two-stage mesophilic anaerobic digestion process with Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) technology, aimed at ensuring efficient waste processing, higher gas output, and reliable long-term operations.
REnergy Dynamics will be responsible for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of the facilities, along with one year of Operations and Maintenance (O&M), to ensure smooth commissioning and stable performance.
Together, the two plants are expected to process around 550 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily. The initiative is projected to deliver significant environmental and economic benefits, including the reduction of approximately 2.9 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. By capturing methane from waste and converting it into clean bioenergy, the projects will also help prevent harmful emissions that would otherwise result from landfill decomposition.
In addition, the facilities are expected to reduce dependence on landfills and strengthen urban waste management systems.
Kushagra Nandan, CMD, REnergy Dynamics, said “Securing two projects from Refex Renewables is a significant milestone for REnergy Dynamics. It reflects the strength of our execution capabilities and the growing confidence in our ability to deliver large-scale, sustainable bioenergy infrastructure.”
Varun Karad, CEO, REnergy Dynamics, added, “These back-to-back project wins demonstrate the robustness of our techno-financial EPC approach and our focus on execution excellence. Waste-to-CBG is not just about technology, it is about delivering reliable, scalable systems on the ground. With these projects, we are strengthening our footprint in South India and continuing to build assets that are designed for long-term performance.”
Kalpesh Kumar, MD, Refex Renewables, apprised, “Our partnership with REnergy Dynamics is rooted in a shared vision of building efficient, scalable waste-to-energy solutions that make a lasting impact. Their engineering expertise and execution-driven approach make them an ideal partner for delivering complex CBG projects with precision and reliability.”
The ‘Northward Trajectory’ of RED
Noida headquartered REnergy Dynamics, launched in May 2024, has made significant strides in the area of biogas development in the country. Its Nagothane CBG plant in Maharashtra has become the fastest CBG plant in India to cross its nameplate capacity of more than 21 TPD. The company has signed an MoU with the Uttar Pradesh state government to invest Rs 500 crore in CBG projects across the state. Moreover, the company launched as a new vertical called ‘REDi’ that will offer specialised industrial construction and EPC solutions across India.
