Reliance begins construction of twin biogas plants in East Godavari

Reliance biogas project foundation stone has been laid in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. According to an official announcement, Reliance is initiating the construction of two biogas plant units in Dommeru village, located in East Godavari district, covering an area of 36 acres.

The Reliance biogas project aims to achieve a production target of 43 metric tons, with an investment totalling Rs 256 crore. The biogas project is also aimed at generating employment opportunities for 270 individuals.

Dr. K. Madhavilatha, the District Collector, confirmed that two bio plant units will be established in Kapavaram Dommeru village within Kovvuru mandal.

During a ceremony held at the district collector’s office, a stone plaque was unveiled by the collector, marking the establishment of the industry by “Reliance Bio Energy Limited” in Kapavaram village.

The state industries department, spearheaded by Gudivada Amarnath Velagapudi, initiated proceedings in a virtual format. In its initial phase, Reliance has established 8 compressed bio-gas plants in Andhra Pradesh, investing 1024 crore rupees, with the intention of hiring 1080 employees.

Representatives from Reliance Industries said that the biogas plants are expected to commence production within six months, producing compressed biogas alongside organic fertilizers. Local MLA Talari Venkatarao highlighted that the Kapavaram unit boasts a yearly production capacity of 7000 metric tons, creating job opportunities for approximately 100 individuals.

The event saw the presence of District Industries Officer B. Venkateswara Rao, along with representatives from Reliance Bio Energy Limited including G. Krishna Kumar, M. Sudhir, R. Manjrekar Reddy, and others.

In September 2023, Reliance Industries’ Chairman Mukesh Ambani outlined the ambitious plans of his company to establish 100 CBG plants within the next five years across India. These compressed biogas plants are projected to utilise 5.5 million tonnes of agricultural residue and organic waste.
