New CBG plant come up in Noida

The Noida Authority has announced to establish a waste-to-compressed-biogas (CBG) plant in Sector 80 to address the city’s growing horticulture waste and promote scientific waste management and clean energy generation.

The Authority has identified 12 acres in Sector 80 for the proposed facility and has invited expressions of interest to appoint an agency for the project. The selected agency will be responsible for designing, financing, developing and operating the CBG facility.

Currently, Noida currently generates around 100–120 tonnes of horticulture waste daily, which is transported to dumping sites in Sectors 32 and 105. With these sites already exceeding their capacity, the disposal and decomposition of the waste have become a growing challenge.

As per reports, the initial CBG contract will run for 12 years, with a possible three-year extension. The facility is required to become operational within 18 months of the appointed date, providing Noida with a dedicated solution for managing its horticulture waste while producing renewable energy.

The facility will receive horticulture waste from across Noida, segregate and process it, and convert it into CBG. The agency will also manage residual material and remove legacy horticulture waste from existing dumping sites.

To improve the CBG project’s viability, the operator may also source horticulture waste from other locations.

In 2025, Noida Authority had already approved the establishment of a 300 tonnes-per-day (TPD) Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management (IMSWM) plant in sector 145. The authority has also an agreement with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) to build a CBG plant.
