Gurgaon headquartered renewable energy firm LR Energy has announced that it has successfully commissioned its inaugural Compressed Biogas (CBG)/ Renewable Natural Gas(RNG) project in Karnal district of Haryana. The CBG project has been built under the Indian government’s flagship initiative SATAT.
As per the official statement of the LR Energy, this significant milestone marks a giant leap towards sustainable energy solutions and aligns with its commitment to a greener future.
LR Energy said that the Karnal CBG plant in Haryana will take the feedstock in the form of waste from the sugar industry. Haryana has been in the bad light for past few years for the problem of parali or paddy stubble burning that would choke the entire North India with abrupt air pollution with cities literally turning into gas-chambers. LR Energy held that this CBG plant will also consume agriculture wastes too to produce renewable gas.
The capacity of the CBG plant is 2000 MTPA and the fermented organic manure (FOM) capacity is 9000 MTPA.
LR Energy said that the CBG gas will be supplied to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). In terms of impact, the project will serve several Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) like Affordable And Clean Energy, Decent Work And Economic Growth, Identity Innovation And Infrastructure and Climate Action.
“Our dedicated team’s tireless efforts have turned vision into reality, showcasing LR Energy’s prowess in renewable energy innovation. This achievement not only contributes to reducing our carbon footprint but also paves the way for a more sustainable and eco-friendly energy landscape,” said LR Energy.
LR Energy is also building up two separate CBG plants in Sonipat each having capacities of 5-MTPD biogas and fermented organic manure of 25-MTPD.
SATAT Scheme:
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry launched the SATAT initiative for providing a Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation as a developmental effort that would benefit both vehicle-users as well as farmers and entrepreneurs. This initiative holds great promise for efficient municipal solid waste management and in tackling the problem of polluted urban air due to farm stubble-burning and carbon emissions.
Under SATAT, Use of CBG will also help bring down dependency on crude oil imports and in realising the Prime Minister’s vision of enhancing farmers’ income, rural employment and entrepreneurship.
