Indian Biogas Association (IBA) to skill 50,000 ex-armymen for biogas sector

The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Army Welfare Placement Organization (AWPO) and Reveille Energy LLP to train and employ nearly 50,000 ex-servicemen in India’s growing bioenergy sector. The initiative aims to create sustainable career opportunities while addressing the rising demand for skilled manpower in the renewable energy industry.

According to an official statement from IBA, the collaboration seeks to bridge the skill gap in the bioenergy ecosystem by providing structured training, reskilling, and upskilling programmes tailored for retired army personnel. This effort aligns with India’s broader clean energy goals by integrating a disciplined and capable workforce into the sector.

Under the agreement, AWPO will be responsible for identifying and mobilising suitable candidates from across the country. IBA, on the other hand, will leverage its industry network to offer training opportunities, facilitate industry linkages, and provide placement support. Reveille Energy LLP will play a key role in policy advocacy, strategic planning, and coordination of the initiative.

IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia said that India’s bioenergy sector is gaining strong momentum and will require a robust skilled workforce to meet sustainability targets. He also mentioned that the first phase of the programme will focus on training between 25,000 and 50,000 veterans.

Retired Major General AS Chauhan, Managing Director of AWPO, emphasised that army veterans bring leadership, discipline, and operational excellence, making them well-suited for emerging industries. He described the partnership as a convergence of national service and sustainable development.

Colonel Rohit Dev, Founder and Managing Director of Reveille Energy LLP, added that the initiative will strengthen workforce management in the bioenergy value chain, particularly through public-private partnerships supported by the MNRE Ministry to enable faster sectoral growth.
