India will make 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen every year: PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India aims to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen every year by the end of this decade under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The Prime Minister was deliberating during a virtual event to inaugurate and launch projects worth over ₹2 lakh crore in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The PM revealed that two green hydrogen hubs are planned, one of which will be established in Visakhapatnam.

During the event, Modi also laid the foundation stone for various development projects. These include the establishment of a green hydrogen hub in Anakapalli district, a collaboration between NTPC Green Energy Ltd and the New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP).

“The country launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission in 2023. Our aim is to make 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen production (annually) by 2030. As a first step, two green hydrogen hubs will be set up, out of which one is in Visakhapatnam,” the Prime Minister stated.

He said that the upcoming green hydrogen hub will generate several employment opportunities for the people of area and lead to the development of a manufacturing ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh.

Highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s potential, Modi said the state is working towards becoming a USD 2.5 trillion economy by 2047, a goal aligned with India’s broader vision for economic growth. He assured that the central government would collaborate closely with the state to achieve this milestone.

Describing Andhra Pradesh as a “land of possibilities and opportunities,” the Prime Minister emphasized that the region is poised to emerge as a hub for futuristic technologies.

Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated a new railway zone and dedicated several infrastructure projects in the rail and road sectors to the nation.
