GAME CHANGER: REnergy Dynamics (RED) launches comprehensive engineering solutions for upto 3.5 TPD biogas plants at just Rs 10 lakhs

In an important development, Noida based REnergy Dynamics (RED) has launched a specialized initiative offering comprehensive engineering services for small CBG plants (up to 3.5 TPD capacity/1 Digester) at a cost of just Rs 10 lakhs. The initiative has been inaugurated by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi.

Data from the SATAT portal shows that over 30% of plants, with a capacity of up to 3.5 TPD, out of approximately 500 plants are in the “Yet to Start Construction” phase, highlighting the need for tailored support. The initiative aims to empower grassroots entrepreneurs by making high-quality design and engineering for CBG plants accessible and affordable, addressing a key gap in the sector where smaller projects often face prohibitively high costs for these solutions.

RED’s comprehensive engineering solutions will cover the entire engineering scope, including basic design philosophy, critical equipment list, mass and heat balance, mechanical and piping layouts, civil engineering for digesters, and electrical and instrumentation design. All the services offered shall comply with global quality standards like ASME, ANSI, API and IS Codes. While standardization will be maintained to ensure speed and affordability, the initiative will allow for location-specific customization that addresses plot dimensions, climate conditions, local construction norms and integration with existing infrastructure.

Revolutionising the CBG Sector

RED already has a team of 100 engineers in-house & a developed ecosystem working on big projects. Varun Karat says that Rs 10 lakh would be less than 0.5% of the project cost and good engineering is first step towards making a good CBG plant.

The initiative is rooted in a vision to empower small-scale project developers. Varun highlights a growing concern: many small biogas plants are failing due to poor engineering practices, and as a result, banks have become reluctant to finance these ventures. Both Varun and Kushagra are committed to supporting the biogas sector and the wider community, ensuring it is inclusive and not limited to large companies. “The sector cannot be only for the larger companies, but for small ones too. The field should be level playing one for everyone. We want to impart knowledge through this initiative.”

“Presently a small developer is being charged Rs 50 lacs to Rs 1 crore for basic engineering services.  Europeans charge even higher,” apprises Varun. He held that as soon as the initiative was launched by the Union Minister, RED has already got inquiries for 35 plants.

Varun notes that the beneficiaries of this initiative will be entrepreneurs connected to the bioenergy ecosystem — whether it’s a petrol pump owner looking to sell a few tonnes of biogas or a Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) aiming to delve into energy production.

The initiative is expected to especially benefit rural and semi-urban areas by enabling entrepreneurs to set up decentralized biogas plants, utilizing local feedstock and serving local energy needs, even in regions where access to large off-take infrastructure is limited.
