China’s ZNShine becomes First Foreign Supplier to Win a BHEL Tender

Chinese PV Module manufacturer ZNShine Solar has won a tender to supply 37.5 MW of PV modules to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), India’s largest manufacturer of power generation equipment and in the process became the first foreign module supplier to bag a contract with BHEL.

ZNShine claims that they were successful bidders due to one key reason and that was the difference in the quality of products. The modules that will be procured from ZNShine are considered to be of a much higher grade than those available from local suppliers. The company also recently released its highly rated graphene-coating (nano-technology) solar modules. The graphene coating has a self-cleaning property that will prove advantageous for Indian conditions, prone to dust storms and high dust levels.

ZNShine’s local services set up and graphene modules are expected to save cleaning and maintenance costs. The company claim that the modules are capable of maximising the light transmittance (~94.3 percent), which can increase the power output by 0.5 to 1 percent. As per the agreement, 10 percent of the supplies will be graphene-coating solar panels and the delivery is expected to be completed on or before October this year.

Qian Li, Marketing Director of ZNShine Solar said, “The Indian PV market has been growing rapidly in recent years, we are targeting its potential and huge demand. We are also planning to build with our local partner an integrated production line there that includes silicon wafer, cells and modules.”

Once the delivery is completed ZNShine’s total shipments to India will cross the 1 GW barrier, the biggest contributor to which is the 300 MW photovoltaic module supply agreement with Indian renewable energy developer ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited.

BHEL has bagged orders worth ₹1.25 billion for the development of two solar photovoltaic (SPV) power projects in Gujarat and another 75 MW grid-connected solar PV project to develop in Gujarat Solar Park, located in Charanka village of Patan district for which the company released tenders for procurement of solar modules.
