Andhra Minister wants Reliance to fasten construction of CBG plants

Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has instructed the Reliance Industries to work in close coordination with the State Energy Department to ensure the timely and efficient construction of Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants across the state.

Chairing a high-level review meeting, Gottipati Ravi Kumar focused on the strategic importance of CBG projects. He emphasised the potential of CBG projects to benefit local farmers, create employment opportunities for educated youth, and drive rural economic growth.

He said that CBG plants are not just energy infrastructure—they’re catalysts for rural prosperity.  The government wants communities to come forward and support this initiative. It’s an opportunity for youth and farmers alike.

The meeting focused on assessing the progress of Reliance’s green energy investments in Andhra Pradesh. The Minister instructed officials to expedite all works related to CBG plants and announced that progress reviews would be held once every 15 days.

Two major plants—at Vayumadugu and PC Palli—are scheduled for commissioning by March 2026. Beyond the ongoing work in Prakasam district, CBG projects are also being set up in selected constituencies of Sri Sathya Sai, Nandyal and Anantapur districts. The next phase will extend to Kandukur, Atmakur and Udayagiri areas of Nellore district.

Reliance representatives at the meeting expressed satisfaction with the State government’s proactive support and reiterated their commitment to local development. They highlighted that the CBG plants will enhance farmer incomes and create significant employment for local youth.

Minister Gottipati directed all concerned departments to provide full support—especially in fast-tracking land allotments, resolving inter-departmental coordination issues, and ensuring effective collaboration at the district level with Reliance teams.

He also underscored the transformative potential of the initiative, calling it a “mega green energy mission” that aligns with the State’s goals of sustainable development, rural upliftment, and industrial expansion.

Reliance officials shared that over ₹1,000 crore has already been invested over the past 18 months for the development of eight CBG plants across the State.

The state government gave go ahead to 500 CBG projects in the beginning of this year under the newly crafted AP Integrated Clean Energy Policy-2024 (ICEP). Reliance has been on the forefront of the biofuels’ development. The company has recently announced its plans of setting up 350 CBG projects in North East. It has also pumped-in Rs 100 crores recently with ICAR to develop feedstocks in the country for the biogas plants.
