Gravita India commissions lithium-ion battery recycling plant at Mundra

Jaipur headquartered Gravita India Ltd announced the successful commissioning of its lithium-ion battery recycling plant at Mundra, Gujarat, marking a strategic entry into the fast-growing battery recycling segment. The development was disclosed on January 23, 2026, through a regulatory filing under Regulation 30 of the SEBI, underscoring Gravita India focus on sustainable growth and innovation.

The new recycling facility by Gravita India has been established with an investment of about Rs 14 crore, funded entirely through internal accruals. Designed with a processing capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA), the Mundra plant significantly enhances the firm’s ability to cater to the rising demand for environmentally responsible recycling solutions, driven by the rapid expansion of electric vehicles (EVs), energy storage systems, and renewable energy applications.

Equipped with cutting-edge recycling technology, the plant emphasizes safe, efficient, and sustainable processing of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries. The advanced systems deployed at the facility are aimed at minimizing environmental impact, reducing hazardous waste, and enabling the recovery and reuse of valuable materials.

This initiative reinforces Gravita India’s commitment to promoting a circular economy by conserving natural resources and lowering dependence on virgin raw material mining.

The launch of the lithium-ion battery recycling plant aligns closely with global sustainability trends and India’s clean energy transition. With EV adoption accelerating worldwide, Gravita India is positioning itself as a key participant in the evolving battery recycling ecosystem. The company has indicated that this facility will serve as a foundation for further expansion in the segment, along with potential collaborations with leading players in the electric mobility and renewable energy sectors.

Gravita India Limited is a leading global recycling company with more than three decades of experience across five business verticals. The company operates 13 eco-conscious manufacturing facilities worldwide, with a combined processing capacity of 3,45,659 MTPA, and has a presence in over 70 countries.
