Chemco Group launches food-grade PET bottle recycling plant

Chemco Group has commissioned a food-grade PET bottle-to-bottle recycling facility in Gujarat, marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s circular plastics economy. The project, developed with an investment of nearly Rs125 crore, enables Chemco to offer integrated, end-to-end recycling of PET bottles at an industrial scale.

Chemco, a leading Indian plastic packaging manufacturer, said the new facility places it among a limited group of companies in the country capable of converting post-consumer PET bottles back into food-grade packaging material.

Vaibhav Saraogi, MD of Chemco Group, said, “This facility represents a strategic shift in how Chemco approaches sustainability. Rather than treating recycling as an external dependency, we have built a fully integrated bottle-to-bottle ecosystem that gives our customers confidence in supply security, traceability, and compliance. This is not just an investment in infrastructure — it is an investment in the future of responsible packaging.”

Located in Sanand, an industrial hub in Gujarat, the facility has the capacity to recycle more than one billion post-consumer PET bottles annually. These bottles are processed into high-quality recycled PET (rPET) suitable for direct food and beverage packaging applications. The company said the facility will help replace virgin plastic with certified recycled material without compromising on quality, safety or performance.

The recycling plant has been designed as a closed-loop operation, offering control across the entire value chain. This integrated model enhances traceability, reduces logistics-related emissions and limits dependence on third-party suppliers.

Chemco said that the scale of the facility allows it to meet the quality and volume requirements of large beverage, FMCG and food brands.

Beyond environmental benefits, the project is expected to generate skilled employment, strengthen Gujarat’s position as a manufacturing and sustainability hub, and support national goals related to waste reduction, resource efficiency and circular manufacturing. Chemco said that rising global demand for food-grade recycled materials will guide future capacity expansions and higher recycled-content applications.
