Decathlon, the global multi-specialist sports brand, announced its 8th edition of World Cleanup Day 2025 across India, featuring over 50 events and mobilising more than 6,000 participants nationwide.
Building on last year’s campaign success, where over 3,600 volunteers collected upwards of 7,000 kilograms of waste, Decathlon is reinforcing its sustainability commitment under the motto “the world is our playground.”
From beaches and forests to lakes and local playgrounds, participants and partner NGOs will unite to clean and safeguard India’s diverse landscapes, to put forth the cause that these natural and recreational spaces remain vibrant and sustainable.
As part of its long-term sustainability vision, Decathlon integrates circularity into its business through initiatives like repair services, buyback and resale programs, and the Second Life initiative, making sports equipment more accessible while curbing product waste.
By actively involving customers and students of all ages, the brand promotes awareness about effective waste management and circular economy principles.
The cleanup materials collected during events will be responsibly processed in partnership with specialised waste management organisations, emphasising recycling and energy recovery.
This year’s Decathlon World Cleanup Day campaign reflects the power of collaboration, organised in conjunction with NGOs, local authorities, and Decathlon volunteers nationwide.
Linking sport with environmental responsibility, the initiative invites participants to embody “collective responsibility” through varied activities, including beach cleanups, hike plogging, lake and forest conservation efforts, and playground maintenance.
Annie George, Leader Sustainable Development at Decathlon India, said, “World Cleanup Day gives us an opportunity to stand by our mission and demonstrate our belief that the ‘world is our playground,’ where every space offers a chance to move, play and embrace the joy of sport.
“As a responsible brand, we are mindful of the impact of our activities on the environment and are taking action to reduce and manage waste across our value chain. We are committed to giving purpose to 100 percent of our operational waste through recycling and scientific disposal, and are steadily progressing towards this goal. This initiative marks another important step in Decathlon’s ongoing sustainability journey and our commitment to a healthier future.”
