Revolutionizing GH2 Production: Ohmium Unveils Lotus Mark 3

The Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers manufacturer Ohmium International has unveiled the third generation of its Lotus electrolyser, the Lotus Mark 3.

The new system dramatically reduces the total land footprint to just 29.7 square meters per megawatt (sqm/MW), including maintenance and access areas, through a horizontal installation design. As per the official statement, it integrates key components such as the balance of plant (BoP), power electronics, water treatment, gas-liquid separation, hydrogen purification, and cooling systems into a unified platform.

This integrated approach optimises the conversion of AC power and municipal water into high-purity hydrogen (99.99 percent+) under pressure, streamlining production and reducing installation costs.

Innovation in Modular Design and Maintainability

The Lotus Mark 3 features a hyper-modular design that simplifies installation by eliminating the need for cranes in most cases. Its rack-in/rack-out architecture enables easy access using common equipment like hand trucks or forklifts, which minimises downtime and operational expenses.

These design improvements reduce capital expenditures and optimise operational efficiency, making green hydrogen production more economically feasible for industrial users.

Proven Performance and Global Reach

Ohmium currently supports a robust green hydrogen project pipeline exceeding 2 GW across three continents.

The company’s technology has demonstrated reliable field performance in diverse and extreme climates, from -40°C to 55°C. This wide operating range, the company suggests, positions Ohmium’s electrolysers as a versatile solution for a variety of industrial applications and geographies.

Markus Tacke, CEO of Ohmium, emphasised the significance of the Lotus Mark 3’s attributes and said, “By integrating a comprehensive system into a small land area, our latest Lotus electrolyser reduces costs and simplifies green hydrogen production. This advances the energy transition for hard-to-decarbonise sectors without requiring large, expensive land parcels. Our advanced PEM technology and modular designs offer flexible, cost-effective pathways toward sustainability.”

Headquartered in the United States with manufacturing facilities in India and operations worldwide, Ohmium designs, manufactures, and deploys modular, scalable Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers for green hydrogen production, catering to sustainable development across industrial, transportation, and energy projects.

Ohmium claims a global green hydrogen project pipeline exceeding 2 GW across three continents. In 2023, Ohmium raised USD 250 million in Series C financing, led by TPG Rise Climate.
