Hithium to Supply 640MWh Energy Storage for Woolooga BESS Project
Hithium, a global energy storage product provider, announced the supply of 640 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage capacity to Lightsource bp. Lightsource bp is a global developer and operator of utility-scale renewable energy projects. Hithium is also working with INTEC Energy Solutions to provide operation and maintenance services for the Woolooga Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Stage 1 project in Queensland, Australia.
The Woolooga BESS project has an energy storage capacity of 222 megawatts (MW) and 640 MWh. It uses 128 units of 5MWh BESS containers, built with Hithium’s prismatic 314Ah cells. The project is designed to support renewable energy integration by providing grid management, load regulation, and ensuring a stable energy supply during periods of renewable energy variability.
The 5MWh BESS containers used in this project feature double-length modules with IP67 protection grade and advanced cooling systems. These containers can operate in extreme weather conditions and provide 40 percent more energy than previous generations. The cells used in these containers are engineered specifically for stationary energy storage and come with a 25-year warranty.
Hithium described the Woolooga BESS project as a step in entering the Australian market. It also showcases a method of innovative energy solutions in Queensland. The project is expected to attract further investment in energy storage and promote the use of renewable energy in the region. This approach enhances grid flexibility and renewable energy integration, helping to address the challenges of renewable energy variability.
