Vikram Solar Commissions 1.46 MW of Rooftop Solar projects for Century Ply

One of India’s leading module manufacturer and now solutions provider,  Vikram Solar, yesterday announced the installation of 1461 kW worth of Rooftop Solar PV systems for Century Plyboards Limited at two of the company’s locations. Century Plyboard itself is one of the biggest players in the wooden finishings business. Both the firms are Kolkata-based.

The first system which has been commissioned at Century Plyboards’ Chennai unit is worth 1056 Kw and spans over 11,000 square metres across seven factory sheds and 3 evacuation points. The system consists of 3300 modules in operations with a cumulative annual energy yield of 1.536 million units, enough to help reduce 1310 metric tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions per year according to the company.

Mr. Gyanesh Chaudhary, MD & CEO, Vikram Solar, shared on the occasion, “Century Plyboards Limited is a leader in the industry and it was a privilege for us to make their vision a reality in their first step towards the green energy drive which is a valuable and respectful addition in our portfolio of leading industrial manufacturers that we have helped go solar. We are proud to have showcased a strategic and technological advantage in conceptualising the project, and upholding our commitment to the client. We hope that this will be a long lasting association and we congratulate Century Plyboards Limited for their step towards a Green India”.

Vikram Solar also commissioned a 405kW Rooftop Solar PV system at Century Plyboards’ Chirai Moti unit near the Kandla Port in Gujarat. Spanning over 450 square metres, the project will power the complete factory with the power being evacuated at 2 points. The plant is expected to produce approximately 6 Lakh units annually, reducing around 500 metric tonnes of Carbon Dioxide emissions per year.

Mr. Keshav Bhajanka, Executive Director, Century Ply, shared, “Green energy shift was always a part of our plan to become a part of the national Green Energy Revolution and we are glad to have succeeded in ushering into the renewable hemisphere. Our intention was to contribute towards the Solar Mission of the country and actively address the issue of global warming.”.

For Century Plywood, as a major player in the ecologically involved plywood industry, the move probably made sense as a business call too, as solar costs are finally at or even below regular industrial or commercial rates.

Yesterday Vikram Solar also formally launched its new solar modules using the latest half-cut-cell technology at the REI 2018 Expo, held at Greater Noida.
